Coated production parts often have to meet high standards of visual appearance. Differences in optical impressions between lots are not uncommon. Unlike conventional gloss or roughness testers, scattered light technology is able to detect these differences.

The OptoGloss measuring system is a hand-held device for measuring roughness or gloss of coated surfaces, based on scattered light. Small parts in all fields, such as automotive, sanitary equipment, multimedia or medical engineering are generally measured. Thanks to the non-contact measuring principle, the probes will not be scratched during measurement, which is a huge advantage over other measuring techniques. The system is suitable for measurement tasks in the context of quality assurance immediately after coating, or for inspection upon receipt by customers.

If larger objects need to be measured, OptoSurf offers a robot-based solution.

Easy to use

The system is very simple to use. The measurement object is placed in a fixture and the measurement is initiated. By slightly rotating the object, the ideal position is automatically identified by the OS 500 sensor, which then records the correct measurement data.

The part and its tolerance values can be saved in the OptoSurf software. If the measurement result is within tolerance, the data are displayed in green. If the data is out of tolerance, it will be displayed in red.
