Optical equipment and components for medicine

Process reliability and manufacturing quality for the benefit of human health

Health is our most important asset. That’s why doctors are helped by a wide range of technologies in their efforts to restore it. Optics plays a major role in this respect, whether to improve a doctor’s eyesight or even as an implant for our own eyes. Whatever the application, one thing is paramount: process reliability and manufacturing quality.

Ophthalmics – Measuring intraocular lenses

Cataract surgery is the most frequently performed operation in the world. As a result, demand for intraocular lenses (IOLs) is constantly increasing. Patients’ expectations of implants are evolving, and are being met by the development of high-end lenses. As a result, all IOL manufacturers are rapidly developing new lens models. They then need effective, high-quality measurement tests for their implants.

As with all medical products, IOLs must be developed, produced and finally tested in compliance with the relevant ISO standards, in particular ISO11979.

For this reason, instruments for quality inspection of intraocular lenses must perform in-situ measurements with a physical model of the cornea and a model of the eye simulating natural conditions. The measurement of parameters such as lens aberrations and toric axis deviation or power mapping are also of great interest.

To meet all these measurement requirements, TRIOPTICS France offers top-of-the-range systems for precise and reliable evaluation of intraocular lenses. These include the two product versions in the OptiSpheric® IOL range, as well as the WaveMaster® IOL.

Endoscopy – Measuring the quality of endoscope lenses

Endoscopy is used to clarify and treat conditions related to our internal organs, such as the gastrointestinal tract, abdomen, respiratory tract, thoracic region and certain joints. To guarantee a reliable diagnosis and a minimally invasive operation, the quality of the image projected by the endoscope’s observation optics via a camera onto a monitor is crucial. While significant progress has already been made in terms of camera quality, the optics installed in an endoscope are now also a quality factor.

The small size of the lenses installed in endoscopes presents a particular challenge when converting lenses, for example into achromats. Special holders are required for micro-optics. In order to ensure that high quality standards are met, a great deal of attention is paid to testing optical parameters.

TRIOPTICS France offers a range of products for endoscope imaging quality control: the ImageMaster® ENDO PRO.

Imaging system for forensic medicine

Hyperspectral imaging applications are highly varied and constantly expanding. In addition to the food industry and art and heritage science, our partner ClydeHSI has delivered complete hyperspectral imaging systems for forensic applications.

Indeed, hyperspectral imaging can help forensic medical services by revealing altered text in documents, the nature of bodily fluids taken from a crime scene, but also the profiling of a contusion and the duration of existence of a wound.

That’s why our partner ClydeHSI has developed a hyperspectral microscope: the only microscopic hyperspectral imaging solution available on the market.
