The interferometric vibrometer (LS-V NG series) developed by SIOS GmbH is an ideal instrument for accurate, non-contact determination of the change in position of objects or surfaces as a function of time at frequencies ranging from 0 to 6MHz.

The instrument is based on the SP NG series 1-beam homodyne plane mirror interferometer. Additional optics have been added to the SP series interferometer detection head to focus the beam on the object, enabling characterization of surfaces of any roughness. The focal length is adjustable from 250mm to 2.5m.

The system comprises an electronic unit with laser, detector head and various interfaces. The fiber interferometer converts motion along the optical axis into two quadrature signals directly proportional to displacement. By fringe counting and interpolation, it is possible to achieve sub-nanometer resolutions. Specific software performs the Fourier transform of the signal and delivers the frequency spectrum of the object’s movement.

Features of the vibrometer with fixed or variable focal length :

  • Non-contact measurement
  • Easy to align and use
  • Temperature and pressure correction
  • High-precision determination of vibration modes
  • Determination of resonance frequencies of microscopic objects
  • Can be installed in a wide range of environments (e.g. machine tools….)
  • Fiber-optic coupling of laser beam (eliminates thermal influences on results)
  • Includes software for Fourier Transform of the signal
  • Multi-axis measurement using multiple vibrometers
